Wakulla County lies just south of Tallahassee on the Gulf coast. Its Building Department in Crawfordville handles permitting and contractor registration, and nearly everything can be done through the county's CitizenServe portal.
Certified vs registered in Wakulla County
| License | Basis | Where it is good |
|---|---|---|
| State certified | State exams, including Business and Finance | Anywhere in Florida |
| State registered | Local competency registered with DBPR | Only where local requirements were met |
Wakulla's registration checklist is written around the state certified license: the first item on the list is a "Florida State Certified License." If you hold a registered license from another county, contact the Building Department before you bid, because registered licenses are only valid where the holder met local requirements.
New contractor registration
The Building Department says all new contractors must submit copies of:
- Florida State Certified License.
- General liability insurance, with Wakulla County as certificate holder at 3095 Crawfordville Hwy, Crawfordville, FL 32327.
- Workers' compensation insurance, with the same certificate holder, or a copy of your workers' comp exemption if applicable.
- Florida business tax receipt issued by the city or county where your business is located. If your business is out of state, a receipt from any Florida city or county is required.
- All current phone numbers and an email address for the license holder.
- Authorization for permit pickup: if the license holder will not pick up permits, a signed and notarized letter on company letterhead naming who may, or the county's Letter of Authorization (Contractor) form from the Documents page.
Registration documents can be faxed to 850-926-8086 or emailed to department staff. The office number is 850-926-7636.
Under F.S. 489.113(4)(a), a state certified contractor only needs to show a current certificate and pay the normal local fees, which is what this checklist reflects.
Permitting through CitizenServe
- Permit applications may be submitted online through CitizenServe or in person; online is the county's recommended route. Review the checklist in the Document Center first, because incomplete applications cannot be processed.
- After issuance, print the Building Inspection Job Card from the Documents tab and post it visibly at the job site.
- The Document Center includes a Product Approval Specification Form, an asbestos affidavit, a Notice of Commencement, an owner-builder affidavit and a notice to swimming pool owners.
Local business tax receipt
Wakulla County's Local Business Tax Receipt application is issued by Wakulla County Planning and Community Development, 3093 Crawfordville Highway, Crawfordville, FL 32327 (850-926-3695). If your business is based outside Wakulla, the registration checklist accepts a receipt from the Florida city or county where you are located.
